When is the final payment due?
The final payment is due 1 week before the wedding. We will not deliver the wedding cake if we do not have final payment before the wedding.
What are the delivery charges?
That depends on the location of the wedding. It ranges from $25 for a Providence wedding site, to $150 for south county weddings during the summer high season. Sites outside those ranges such as Boston and the Cape are higher based on time and distance.
When do you deliver the cake?
Usually about an hour and a half before your wedding. We will check with the site to determine the best time.
When do you make the cakes?
We make the cakes the week of the wedding depending on when your wedding is. If your wedding is Saturday, we’re baking on Wednesday, chilling then cutting and filling and crumb coating on Thursday and all final decorations are done on Friday to set up for a Saturday delivery.
Do you use a cake mix?
No. All our cakes and fillings are made from scratch. Each recipe is different and will have different heights and densities depending on the recipe.
You cakes seem denser than I’m used to…
Yes. Since we don’t use a mix there is less sugar (which makes the cakes soft) and no chemicals (also softens). We need denser cakes because many of the cakes we do are carved or stacked. A soft Duncan Hines type cake or a soft chiffon cake won’t hold up to carving and stacking.
What is fondant? Do I need to have fondant? I don’t like the taste of fondant.
Fondant is a rollable sugar product that goes over a buttercream layer on your cake. It makes the cake look very smooth. The sugar develops a slight crust to it, overnight, and hardens slightly which adds stability to the cake. Do you need it? Maybe. Some designs can only be done with fondant such as painting, swags, drapes, embossing etc. If your design contains one of these (or others) you need to use fondant to duplicate the look. Another reason to use fondant is that it doesn’t melt and things don’t stick to it like buttercream. If you’re having an outdoor wedding in summer, you need to have fondant or risk the cake melting or small bugs sticking to the buttercream. Our Fondant is Satin Ice, it’s sweet, but doesn’t taste bad. It tastes exactly like the marshmallows in Lucky Charms. There’s not a lot of fondant on each slice and it’s easily removable.
Do you rent cake stands?
Yes. All our cakes come on a standard fondant covered base, but we do have metal stands for rent. Our stands rent for $35. The week before your wedding we ask for a credit card number as a deposit. You, or someone in your wedding party, is required to return the stand to us within one week. When we receive the stand we delete the card. If we do not receive the stand we will charge your card for the replacement cost of the stand, around $150. If you require us to pick the stand up, we will charge you the delivery fee again.
I have a cake topper/ribbon/broach, what do I do with it?
For the ribbon or broach we would like to have the item at least one week prior to the wedding. For the cake topper, please leave it at the wedding site, we will put it on when we set up the cake.
I’m having flowers on my cake.
We’ll talk to your florist. Some florist prefer to decorate themselves, others don’t. We can take care of the flowers if necessary.
